The Sandy Ridge Oak is a Texas live oak, quercus virginiana. It is in the middle of HK Farm and Sandy Ridge Vineyard in the "sugar sand" of the San Bernardo prairie. Arborists estimate that the tree is around 500 to 700 years old. The trunk is 288 inches in circumference, the average canopy spread is 124 feet and it stands 50 feet tall. These statistics result in a index score of 369 points making the Sandy Ridge Oak one of the largest live oaks in Texas. Imagine what this historic landmark has seen during the founding of Austin's Colony and the infancy of the Republic of Texas.
